From Zimbabwe to Your Table: The Journey of Our Pecans

At Tanaka, we believe in more than just good food, we believe in good people, good practices, and good impact. As a Zimbabwean-first, family brand, our mission is simple: to bring high-quality, ethically produced products from Zimbabwean communities to the global stage.

Our journey began with a commitment to community-led growth. Today, that commitment is rooted in every nut we farm, every partnership we build, and every product we offer. One of our proudest stories? Our Zimbabwean pecans.

Where Our Pecans Begin: The Land and the Legacy

Our pecans are grown across three partner farms in Zimbabwe, each with its own deep agricultural heritage. The oldest Surrey Farm, established in 1947, sits in the lush Eastern Highlands, where ideal climatic conditions, rich soils, and expert hands come together to grow some of the finest pecans in the world.

Pecan farming in Zimbabwe is more than just a crop, it’s a growing source of sustainable income, food security, and opportunity for rural communities.

From Sapling to Snack: The Pecan’s Journey

Bringing pecans from our farms to your table is a process that blends traditional knowledge with modern, sustainable methods:

  1. Planting – It starts with carefully selected saplings planted during the rainy season. These trees take time to mature but are tended with care year-round.

  2. Growing – Pecan trees need patience. Over the years, they grow strong under the African sun, drawing nutrients from fertile Zimbabwean soil.

  3. Harvesting – When harvest season arrives, our teams collect the nuts by hand, ensuring minimal damage and maximum quality.

  4. Processing – Pecans are then cleaned, dried, and sorted with precision. We use simple, sustainable methods that preserve the nut’s natural flavour and nutrients.

  5. Packaging – Finally, the pecans are packed right here in Zimbabwe, ready for local and international markets—ensuring traceability and freshness at every stage.

Powered by People

Behind every pecan is a story—a farmer, a family, a community. Our approach to ethical nut farming means we work directly with producers, prioritising fair wages, knowledge sharing, and local leadership.

At Tanaka, “we” isn’t just a slogan. It’s our way of life. From the field to the final product, every step is community-driven.

Why Zimbabwean Pecans Are Different

Zimbabwe’s unique climate and soil conditions create a pecan that’s naturally rich, buttery, and packed with nutrients. But what truly sets our pecans apart is how they’re grown:

  • With care

  • With integrity

  • With a focus on sustainability

As part of our broader vision, we aim to promote sustainable nut production in Africa, building supply chains that are transparent, responsible, and empowering from the ground up.
